Dandelion is a spring tonic and a blood purifier. Matthew Wood writes in his book The Earthwise Herbal, A Complete Guide to Old World Medicinal Plants, that Dandelion "is indicated when heat descends deeply into the tissues, thickening fluids, slowing down drainage, inflaming the deeper tissues, and even infecting the bones. It is a remedy to cool excess heat and thin and disperse surplus fluids."
The root of Dandelion may be used against gallstones, congestion of the liver, hepatitis, and jaundice. In the liver, it increases the production of bile and its flow to the gallbladder, and facilitates contraction of the gallbladder and release of bile.
Dandelion leaf is a source of both potassium and sodium with great benefit for the kidneys. It helps with water retention, kidney stones, and kidney infection.
Dandelion helps with elevated levels of cholesterol, elevated blood pressure, and cardiorenal edema.
Avoid during blockage of bile ducts, acute gallbladder inflammation, gallstones, and intestinal blockage.
