In
1973, being of a young age and desperately needing to get away from my present
way of life, I made a residential move from a rural conservative community in
Missouri, to the less traditional and more 'with it' area of San Diego
California. I had been dealing with a lot of stress and distress in my life and
was looking for a way to start over. I took an interest in Yoga, and started
practicing it on a daily basis both at home and at a nearby facility which
taught various forms of relaxation, exercise and self defense. It was here that
I began to hear and learn more about energy centers and how energy affected our
everyday lives. Up until then, the
only thing I knew about energy had to do with plugging something into a wall
socket! By
attending many lectures, workshops, and seminars over the years, I have since
learned how to tap in to that energy within us and around us, and to use it in
many ways to better myself. I had been studying Astrology since the age of 14,
so was pretty familiar with the Universe and what
she has to offer. I
met my husband in San Diego where we were married, and shortly thereafter moved
back to the Midwest for him to pursue his call in life. In 1978, his job took us
to Illinois, where I decided to enroll in a nursing program at the Decatur
School of Nursing in Decatur, Illinois, because I wanted
to learn more about the anatomy and physiology of the human body, for a
better understanding of how we work. I completed my training and received my
license in 1981. We
now live back in Mo. and have been here since 1981. My career in nursing has taken me in many directions, but the
one way of treatment that I keep coming back to, is the holistic way of
medicine. Treating the whole person, the Mind, Body and Spirit. I added clinical
aromatherapy to my list of treatment methods back in 1998.
I completed both the Aroma 101 foundations and Aroma 201 Masters
Apprenticeship courses through the East - West
School for Herbal and Aromatic Studies, offered at Cheryls Herbs.
I then successfully completed and passed the National Exam for Registered
Aromatherapists in Kansas Ciy, Mo. in October of 2010.
I now am a Registered Aromatherapist. I
am also a Chiropractic Assistant. I
have been combining my knowledge of nursing, what I learned in San Diego about
energy centers, aromatherapy and my knowledge of natural stones and some herbs,
that was taught to me by several of my Native American friends. I use this
knowledge for the betterment of myself, my friends and family, and those who are
interested in learning more, and wanting an alternative way of treating
ailments, disorders, pain and dis-ease. In
summing up, you may find that what I do, how I live, and how I teach is a
combination of beliefs from several cultures and backgrounds. No where is it
written that we have to be limited in one way of living our lives. In fact, the
Universe, Mother Earth, and our Creator have provided us with a vast amount of
information for learning. Healing
does not discriminate between race, color, cultures or beliefs. Healing is
putting ourselves and others back to a state of well being. The state of
balance, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. This is what I do.
